The Australian Capital Territory (ACT) government can nomination you through the state/nominated stream of the Australian Migration Program. It is designed to address the skills need of the territory. It is allocated a fixed number of nomination places each financial year.

The ACT government can nominate applicants for two types of skilled migration visas:

Skilled Work Regional Visa (subclass 491) (provisional)
Skilled Nominated Visa (subclass 190) (permanent)
One must be invited to apply for ACT nomination. The ACT government through SkillSelect, invite a number of skilled workers to make visa applications for the above skilled visas. Applicants must also meet both the Department of Home Affairs criteria and the ACT skilled visa criteria. This pathway is open to Canberra residents and people living overseas.

The ACT government also offers a streamlined process for people who have completed a PhD at an ACT university.

It is also possible to be invited to apply for ACT nomination where your employment is considered to be of significant economic benefit to the Territory and you do not meet current criteria. This pathway cannot be requested, and the invitation can only be initiated by the ACT government.
